I am within a few months of completing my Textile design course and am about to start producing my final pieces for my graduate exhibition. I have spent the last two and a half months solidifying my design concept, working on my designs and experimenting with samples, both printed and woven. These next few months will be the culmination of 2 years hard work and a lifetime's dreams.
I have drawn inspiration for this textile collection from the richly imagined, dystopian future worlds of Phillip K. Dick, where boundaries are blurred and seemingly contradictory elements fit together seamlessly. Worlds in which nothing is as it seems and we must learn to embrace uncertainty.
This collection will explore the union of contrary elements present in PKD's perception of the world, the futuristic combined with the nostalgic, human and machine, strength and fragility all fitting together seamlessly in both discord and harmony.
I will endeavour to record here my creative and production processes, achievements and setbacks.
